  • The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) has awarded NFI Group subsidiary New Flyer a five-year contract for 40-foot battery-electric buses
  • The contract includes a firm order for 186 Xcelsior CHARGE NG heavy-duty transit buses, with an option to purchase up to an additional 435 buses
  • The order is meant to expedite the TTC’s goal of attaining a zero-emission fleet by 2040

The TTC has awarded NFI Group subsidiary New Flyer a five-year contract for 40-foot battery-electric buses.

The contract includes a firm order for 186 Xcelsior CHARGE NG heavy-duty transit buses, with an option to purchase up to an additional 435 buses.

The contract also includes options for other Ontario agencies to enter into agreements with New Flyer for up to 550 buses over four years.

The battery-electric buses will help the TTC fulfill its mission to convert its entire fleet to zero emissions by 2040, as outlined in the TTC Green Bus Technology Plan.

The order follows the TTC’s 2022 order for 134 Xcelsior 40-foot hybrid-electric heavy-duty transit buses and 68 Xcelsior 60-foot hybrid-electric buses over four years, with options for up to an additional 263 40-foot hybrid-electric buses and 100 60-foot buses, respectively.

NFI offers zero-emission battery and fuel cell-electric buses and coaches with vehicles operating or on order in more than 130 cities in six countries.
