Plant-based investor darling The Very Good Food Company (VERY) has appointed Ana Silva as President.

Described as a “veteran plant-based food production executive”, Ana has spent the past five years acting as Chief Financial Officer for dairy-alternatives manufacturer Daiya.

While at Diaya, Ana saw the company transition to one of Canada’s fastest growing plant-based manufacturers, following a C$405 million acquisition by Japan-based Otsuka Pharmaceuticals.

Ana’s new appointment arrives amid a period of rapid expansion for The Very Good Food Company.

Following a notable increase in demand, the company recently leased a new production facility in Vancouver, which is expected to increase current production capacity by more than 2500 per cent.

With that in mind, CEO Mitchell Scott said the company was fortunate to have someone of Ana's calibre and experience joining its team at a critical inflection point.

“With significant capacity expansion and a large waitlist of wholesale accounts, Ana's previous executive level experience at Daiya Foods will be an invaluable asset to our team," he added.

Meanwhile, in her first public statement as Incoming President, Silva spoke with exuberance on her new role.

“The possibilities in the plant-based food industry are endless, and I believe the plant-based movement will secure our long-term global food supply,” she said.

Commenting on why she chose VGFC, Silva pointed to the “innovative” founders, inspiring core values, and the relative youth of the company as reasons for her excitement.

Ana’s will enter her new role as President on 1 January 2021.

The Very Good Food Company is up 2.35 per cent and is trading for C$4.35 per share at 10:12am EST.
