Friday’s session was flat for Canada’s main stock index, although it finished the week higher overall.

The TSX was down 15.57 to close at 20,262.07 as energy and telecoms were the strongest sectors on the day at the Toronto Stock Exchange.

U.S. markets were mixed as the Dow Jones Industrial Average was the only major index to finish in positive territory, managing to register a fifth consecutive day of gains while the NASDAQ and S&P 500 saw their weeklong rallies come to an end.

The Canadian dollar traded for 75.61 cents U.S., compared with 76.27 cents U.S. on Thursday.

US crude futures traded $1.57 lower at $75.32 a barrel, and the Brent contract lost $1.60 to $79.76 a barrel.

The price of gold was down US$4.60 to US$1,959.20.

In world markets, the Nikkei was down 28.07 points to 32,391.26, the Hang Seng was up 63.16 points to 19,493.78, the FTSE was down 5.64 points to 7,434.57, and the DAX was down 35.96 points to 16,105.07.
