The energy and metals sectors did the heavy lifting for Canada’s main stock index on Tuesday. The health care sector also moved higher while the rest of the field closed in the red.

The Canadian dollar traded for 72.85 cents US compared to 72.83 cents US on Monday.

US crude futures traded 2.37 per cent higher at $78.54 a barrel, while the Brent contract gained 2.61 per cent to $86.25 a barrel.

The price of gold was up US0.25 to US$1,628.21.

In world markets, the Nikkei was up 140.32 points to 26,571.87, the Hang Seng was up 5.17 points to 17,860.31, the FTSE was down 36.36 points to 6,984.59, and the DAX was down 88.24 points to 12,139.68.
