• Stinger Resources (TSXV:STNG) has announced an update on its Dunwell Mine drilling program
  • The company said Phase 1 drilling has been completed with assay results returned from the lab
  • Drilling primarily consisted of shallow holes targeting areas along strike within 600 metres south of the Dunwell Mine
  • The two target zones drilled are in the Portland Canal Fissure Zone
  • Assay results ranged up to 12.7 grams per tonne (g/t) gold, 35.7 g/t silver over 0.35m, 4 g/t gold with 38.1 g/t silver over 1.21 metres and 2.3 g/t gold with 60.3 g/t silver over 1.64 metres
  • Base metals were also discovered in these holes
  • Shares of Stinger Resources are down 2.17 per cent to C$0.22 as of 11:49 a.m. EDT

Stinger Resources (STNG) has announced drilling results from its exploration program at its Dunwell Mine in BC’s Golden Triangle.

The company said that Phase 1 drilling has now been completed while assay results have already been returned from the lab.

The target zones drilled so far are in the Portland Canal Fissure Zone where several mineralized structures were encountered including breccias with coarse-grained pyrite, sphalerite and galena.

Meanwhile, assay results included up to 12.7 g/t gold with 35.7 g/t silver over 0.35 metres, 4 g/t gold with 38.1 g/t silver over 1.21 metres and 2.3 g/t gold with 60.3 g/t silver over 1.64 metres. Additionally, base metals were also discovered in these holes.

In a press release, Jim McCrae, PGEo for the property, said that the Dunwell property is underlain by the Lower Jurassic Unuk River and Middle Jurassic Salmon River formations which are intruded by the Tertiary Hyder Quartz Monzonite.

” The fissure zone on the property is represented by north-trending shear zones and fold axis in the Salmon River argillites,” he explained. “The veins in the Dunwell Mine are commonly situated along one or both sides of what appear to be parallel dacite dikes which were intruded into the shear zone and exploited the planes of weakness present at the time of the event and these planes of weakness were the same fractures as the mineralization.”

Meanwhile, Darren Blaney, CEO and president of Stinger Resources, said that because numerous mineralizing events within the Portland Canal Fissure Zone have taken place — and which are why there are so many high-grade showings throughout the 6.5-kilometre length — the company’s goal is to determine which events carry precious and base metals and how the entire system is connected.

“The 2021 drilling has helped give us valuable information in the process of evaluating the geology, structures, lithology, chargeibility, resistivity, and susceptibility and their relationship to each other. As with any project, this is an ongoing process that will continue through the second phase of drilling,” Blaney said.

He continued, “We have only tested a few of the more than 36 geophysical targets given to us by Simcoe Geoscience and have only covered a few hundred meters of the 5 km we own of the 6.5 km Portland Canal Fissure zone. There is a lot of work to be done, and we look forward to moving the project forward and increasing our understanding of the system through future exploration.”

Located in the BC’s Golden Triangle, the Dunwell Project sits roughly 8 kilometres northeast of Stewart and is road accessible with the main Dunwell Mine. It is also the most significant mineral occurrence within the Portland Canal Fissure Zone.

Historic production at Dunweell took place between 1926 and 1937, with a total of 45,657 tonnes produced averaging 6.63 g/t gold, 223.91 g/t silver, 1.83 per cent lead, 2.43 per cent zinc and 0.0656 per cent copper.

Shares of Stinger Resources are down 2.17 per cent to C$0.22 as of 11:49 a.m. EDT.
