Spey (SPEY) has achieved 99.5-per-cent extraction of battery-grade lithium carbonate using the Ekosolve process.

The University of Melbourne’s Chemical Engineering Department has successfully produced lithium carbonate from lithium chloride extracted from the company’s brines in Incahuasi Salar at the Candela II Project.

Spey has acquired the first Ekosolve production licence to complete the construction proposal as well as plant engineering and manufacturing of its plant at Incahuasi.

All samples were processed for lithium analysis and conform to requirements for an NI 43-101 report.

Prior to analysis, the samples were spiked with 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 ppm lithium standards to capture the depressed response due to background interference from the co-ions present.

The company’s CEO, Phil Thomas, said this not only proves the validity of the Ekosolve process for Incahuasi brines, but also the quick processing time using solvent exchange columns.

“Ekosolve Ltd. is planning to build a 100-tonne mini plant in Salta and the company is in active discussions with Ekosolve Ltd. regarding a potential joint venture opportunity,” he stated.

Spey Resources is a mineral exploration company. It has interests in the Silver Basin Property and the ‎Candela II lithium brine project in the Incahuasi Salar, Salta Province, Argentina.

Spey Resources Corp. (SPEY) was down by 6.25 per cent trading at $0.225 per share as of 12:15 pm ET.
