Sixth Wave’s (SIXW) AMIPs prototype has detected E. Coli in as little as five minutes.

The company is developing its AMIPs technology into a multiplexed automated device to diagnose UTIs at point of care.

E. Coli is a frequent cause of cholecystitis, bacteremia, cholangitis, UTIs and traveler’s diarrhea, as well as neonatal meningitis and pneumonia.

Sixth Wave’s microfluidic fluorescent detection device currently boasts sensitivity down to 1,000 bacteria/mL with a 0.25 mL sample. Conventional techniques require over 30-minute processing times or growing bacteria for 24-48 hours.

The goal is to drastically reduce diagnostic time, cost, and time to treatment, while increasing the probability of successful treatment.

The next laboratory research phase includes testing for other bacteria and miniaturizing the device. Research is fully funded for the next two years through an NSERC grant.

According to technavio, the testing market for E. Coli will grow by approximately US$787M by 2026.

Sixth Wave Innovations’ patented technologies extract and detect target substances at the molecular level.

Sixth Wave (SIXW) is up by 63.64 per cent trading at $0.09 per share as of 11:12 am EST.
