Shopify (SHOP) has integrated Google Cloud’s Discovery AI solution into its commerce components.

Shopify’s modern, composable stack for enterprise retail can now access Google Cloud Retail Search, AI-powered browsing and personalization, as well as a Google Cloud Recommendations AI solution.

The integration offers AI-driven product discovery capabilities to address challenges such as search abandonment, which is when a shopper searches for a product on a retailer’s website or mobile app but doesn’t find what they’re looking for.

Search abandonment is estimated to cost the retail industry over $2 trillion annually. A Google Cloud-commissioned survey found that the issue results in $234 billion in losses in the U.S. alone.

Rainbow Shops, a Shopify merchant, has leveraged Google Cloud’s AI technology to increase search volume by 48 per cent and lower its bounce rate three-fold.

Shopify offers an e-commerce platform primarily to small and midsize businesses.

Shopify (SHOP) opened today at $62.53.
