Northstar Clean Technologies (ROOF) received a conditional development permit for its scale-up facility outside of Calgary, Alberta.

Northstar Clean Technologies is a Canadian-based clean technology company focused on sustainably recovering and reprocessing asphalt shingles. It has developed a proprietary design process for taking discarded asphalt shingles and extracting the liquid asphalt for use in construction and other industrial applications.

Last week, the landlord for the planned facility site received a conditional development permit from Rocky View County. The conditional permit included standard conditions that need to be completed prior to receiving a development permit.

The company stated it is not aware of any additional municipal permits needing to be obtained once the development permit is issued to the landlord in order for it to proceed with construction, collection of asphalt shingles, and production at the Calgary facility.

The site selected for Northstar Clean Technologies’ Calgary facility is an industrial-zoned property with 3.98 acres of land located in Rocky View County. The 125-by-125-metre site is 4.4 kilometres southeast of the City of Calgary East Landfill.

The company plans to reprocess used or defective asphalt shingle waste back into its three primary components for reuse and resale at both its pilot facility in Delta, British Columbia and its first commercial scale-up facility in Calgary.

Northstar Clean Technologies Inc. (ROOF) is down 3.57 per cent, trading at $0.13 per share as of 2:25 p.m. EST.
