NFI Group’s (NFI) subsidiary New Flyer of America and New Flyer Industries Canada ULC unveiled its Xcelsior CHARGE FC heavy-duty transit bus.

The Xcelsior CHARGE FC uses environmentally friendly hydrogen and fuel-cell technology to create electricity and to charge batteries for zero-emission extended-range, saving 85-175 tons of greenhouse gas per year from tailpipe emissions compared to a traditional diesel bus.

With a range of nearly 600 km, the bus can be refueled in 6-20 minutes depending on the model and operating conditions and requires no overnight plug-in electrical re-charging. The only tailpipe output is water vapor.

The bus incorporates four distinct technology advancements including:

  • A lighter, simpler, and more efficient heavy-duty fuel cell power module that is easier to service
  • Recyclable, high-power batteries delivering a longer range of more than 595 km of highway driving without refueling
  • Redesigned waterproof battery enclosure providing improved serviceability
  • High-grade, electric drive traction system with up to 90% energy recovery

The company’s President, North American Bus and Coach, Chris Stoddart said that the Xcelsior CHARGE FC also includes the latest technology innovations.

“The new streamlined design is easier to service and maintain, delivers longer range at highway speeds, improves energy recovery, and is smart city-capable, making it the most advanced hydrogen fuel cell-electric bus available on the market.”

He added that with the Xcelsior CHARGE FC now included into NFI’s EV and AV vehicle lineup, the company is out to lead a new mobility era.

New Flyer manufactures its energy storage system enclosures in its bus production facilities.

NFI is a developer of zero-emission mobility electric vehicles operating in more than 110 cities in six countries.

NFI has zero-emission buses and coaches, infrastructure, and technology, providing lots of urban demands for scalable smart mobility solutions.

NFI Group’s (NFI) is up 2.46 per cent, trading at C$13.76 at 1 pm ET.
