NEO Battery Materials (NBM) has filed a new patent for its proprietary process of manufacturing silicon anode materials.

Spencer Huh, President and CEO of NEO, commented on the new patent filing.

“As our Si anode material is gaining further traction and interest, we recognize expanding and strengthening the IP portfolio is imperative,” he said.

The patent will extend the protection for NEO’s unique and cost-effective silicon nanocoating process.

Conventional approaches to mitigate the problems of producing silicon anode materials are not cost-effective and scalable because of high material input costs.

“To meet the requirement for recent battery manufacturers, especially Si anode materials, low-cost, metallurgical grade silicon microparticles is an excellent candidate,” said NEO’s Chief Scientific Advisor Dr. J.H. Park.

“We have proved,” he added, “that NEO’s one-pot nanocoating process is applicable to a wide range of Si materials including nano- and micron-sized particles.”

The new patent will cover a novel method for a more uniform formation of lithium-ion battery silicon anodes.

“This week,” added Mr. Huh, “we have initiated another NDA with a multi-billion-dollar South Korean battery material manufacturer for a potential cooperative development, and we are currently on schedule to commercialize our silicon anode materials.”

NEO Battery Materials is a Vancouver-based resource company focused on battery metals and materials.

The company has staked new mining claims in Golden, BC, and is also focusing on developing silicon anodes.

NEO Battery Materials (NBM) is up 1.61 per cent, trading at $0.63 per share as of 10:49 am ET.
