Mullen Group (MTL), a leading logistics provider, is committed to operating through progressive ESG values.

The company continually seeks to reduce its carbon footprint and enhance its environmental responsibility through green investments in its facilities and equipment.

In terms of facilities, the company adopts LEED principles focused on sustainable site development, water efficiency, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.

In terms of equipment, Mullen continually invests in reduced-emission vehicles, opting for electric forklifts and other material-handling equipment. It also recently purchased CNG (compressed natural gas) heavy-duty trucks, taking delivery of 4 trucks in 2021, another 6 so far in 2022, and an additional 6 by summer 2023.

A CNG engine produces approximately 20 percent fewer emissions using traditional natural gas. This reduces the company’s equivalent price per litre for natural gas by as much as 65 percent compared to diesel at current prices.

In 2022 alone, Mullen has committed $13.5 million towards sustainable initiatives that will be delivered this year and into 2023. This includes additional CNG trucks, electric material handling units, and intermodal containers that provide up to a 70 percent reduction in emissions when shipping by rail compared to over the road.

The company just received its first 7 all-electric Ford transit vans and its first medium-duty Navistar NEXT all-electric delivery truck. These vehicles will be based within Mullen’s Gardewine Group subsidiary in Winnipeg.

When it comes to the well-being of its employees, Mullen is no less thorough. With its drivers covering 300 million kms and delivering 6 million shipments per year, the company offers ongoing training on defensive driving and the transport of dangerous goods to keep to the highest safety standards.

Mullen also holds its annual Grand Prize Safety Award, in effect since 1997, which audits all business units to ensure a commitment to upholding its health, safety and environmental guidelines. The next award will be handed out in February 2023.

Lee Hellyer, Mullen’s VP of Operations, sat down with Daniella Atkinson to expand upon the company’s ESG commitments.

Mullen is one of North America’s largest logistics providers. Its independently operated businesses provide transportation, logistics and warehousing services, as well as specialized services related to the energy, mining, forestry, environmental, utility, telecom and construction industries.

Mullen Group (MTL) opened trading at C$13.79.
