Mason Graphite (LLG) has reported the cycling test results of its complete, prototype lithium-ion batteries.
These batteries contain the company’s coated spherical graphite, which is currently being produced at pilot scale.
Mason Graphite is a Canadian mining and mineral processing company, focused on what it believes to be one of the highest-grade graphite deposits in the word – its wholly owned Lac Guéret graphite project in northeastern Québec.
The coated spherical graphite, a value-added product, will serve the lithium-ion battery market, notably for electric vehicles.
The lithium-ion batteries are made with graphite from Lac Guéret. Mason Graphite says the batteries maintained 86 per cent of their original capacity after 470 cycles of charging and discharging.
The company claims this is a remarkable performance, considering that, for prototype batteries, the target in the electric vehicle application is a minimum of 80 per cent of retention after typically 500 cycles.
The chairman of the Board of Directors at Mason Graphite, Gilles Gingras says after many years of work, the expertise of his team has allowed it to reach excellent results with the coated spherical graphite project.
“That these results have been obtained with samples produced at the pilot scale, and not laboratory scale, clearly demonstrates how advanced our project is,” he added.
Mason Graphite is planning a new pilot production campaign of coated spherical graphite in early 2021, which will be followed by a new sequence of cycling tests.
Mason Graphite closed 2.67 per cent down with shares trading for C$0.36 per share.
