Mason Graphite (LLG) has completed a benchmarking study for its lithium-ion anode materials and is ready to commercialize its battery materials.

The study was developed in collaboration with the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) and Corem, a research and innovation centre in Quebec City.

This achievement enhances the company’s ability to commercialize its Lac Guerét graphite as a key component in the rapidly expanding battery market.

“We are proud of our contribution since 2014 with Mason Graphite to the development of innovations for the extraction, purification, and value-addition of the Lac Guéret project graphite,” said Francis Fournier, president and CEO of Corem.

Mason Graphite has also been working since 2015 on the development and improvement of its transformation process with the NRC.

The company and its partners have developed and mastered the purification, shaping, and coating processes to meet the chemical and physical properties required by battery manufacturers.

The cycling tests carried out on the prototype pouch cell batteries, are conclusive, completing 1,000 charge and discharge cycles while maintaining capacity retention of 80.6 per cent.

This performance unequivocally ranks the Lac Guéret graphite among one of the best performing lithium-ion anode materials presently available commercially in all applications, including electric vehicles.

“The accomplishment celebrated today,” remarked Jean L’Heureux, COO of Mason Graphite, “is the result of thousands of hours of work carried out by the Mason Graphite’s team and by our partners. We would like to thank everyone involved for their invaluable contribution to this achievement.”

The company has now expanded its workforce in order to expedite its commercialization activities, which are expected to progress rapidly in the months ahead.

Mason Graphite is a Canadian corporation dedicated to the production and transformation of natural graphite.

Mason Graphite Inc. (LLG) is up 4.84 per cent on the day, trading at $0.65 per share as of 11:17 pm ET.
