IAMGOLD (IMG) is reporting an employee fatality following an off-site accident in Burkina Faso.

The incident occurred when IAMGOLD team members were hoisting mobile equipment.

The employee passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, as a result of their injuries.

The company has initiated an investigation in collaboration with local authorities. It is also offering support services, including counselling, to those affected.

Operations at the Essakane Gold Project have continued, with employees scheduled for numerous stand-downs to reflect on the loss and reinforce safety practices.

“On behalf of IAMGOLD, we extend our sincerest sympathies and support to our colleague’s family, friends and co-workers,” stated Maryse Bélanger, Chair and Interim President and CEO of IAMGOLD.

IAMGOLD is a mid-tier gold mining company operating in North America, South America and West Africa. The company has three operating mines, a fourth expected to commence production in early 2024, as well as a robust development and exploration portfolio.

IAMGOLD (IMG) is down by 0.76 per cent, trading at $2.62 per share as of 10:19 am ET.
