HPQ Silicon (HPQ) and PyroGenesis Canada (PYR) have achieved the system integration validation phase for the PUREVAP pilot plant testing process.

The GEN3 PUREVAP Quartz Reduction Reactor (QRR) pilot plant is a prototype made up of systems that must operate under harsh conditions and extremely high temperatures.

Bernard Tourillon, President and CEO of HPQ Silicon, commented,

“HPQ is the only company that will bring to market a new process for manufacturing silicon that is perfectly suited to the new demands and realities of today’s silicon market… The reality of chronic underinvestment in new technologies combined with the offshoring of silicon production capacity, is creating massive opportunities for HPQ and its PUREVAP QRR patented process.”

With the systems integration completed, the next milestones include a reactor start-up which will be a one-month phase; a two-month phase to conduct four process improvement tests; and operating the GEN3 QRR continuously.

“Some investors will question our need to allocate about a month to the PUREVAP GEN3 QRR pilot plant reactor startup, but they need to realize that the GEN3 is a scaled-up version of our GEN1 and GEN2 test platforms by a factor of about 200 [X],” said Tourillon.

PyroGenesis is confident that the program will allow HPQ to validate and quantify the previously completed testing phase results. HPQ will then begin providing product samples and plan commercial-scale production systems capable of producing 2,500 tonnes per year of high-purity silicon material from the plant.

HPQ Silicon (HPQ) is up 5.45 per cent trading at $0.29 per share as of 12:22 p.m. ET.
