HighGold Mining (HIGH) has reported that a helicopter has sustained significant damage at its Johnson Tract project in Alaska.

The helicopter was operated by one of the company’s local contractors and sustained the damage following a forced landing event. The company revealed that no passengers were onboard the helicopter when it touched down, and the pilot only received minor injuries.

The company reiterated its focus on the health, safety and well-being of the people working at the Johnson Tract Project and said it remains a high priority.

The company’s on-site emergency response moved quickly to secure the well-being of the pilot and other personnel in the vicinity.

The helicopter’s contractor is now investigating the cause of the incident in collaboration with the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.

The contractor has a second helicopter at the site, with which HighGold will use to service the three drill rigs currently in operation, alongside the geophysical and geology teams on the site.

President and CEO of the company, Darwin Green commented on the incident.

“We are grateful no one was significantly injured, and we will continue to make the health and safety of our employees and contractors a top priority at HighGold Mining,” he said.

In related news, last month a helicopter went down in Newfoundland causing the death of one man. The leisure flight crashed when a pilot attempted to refuel 200 kilometres north of St James before losing control of the aircraft.

HighGold Mining (HIGH) remains unchanged and is trading at C$1.75 per share at 10:00 am EDT.
