Halo Labs (HALO) has announced the promotion of its Chief Strategy Officer, Katharyn Field, to the position of President, effective February 12, 2020.

A strategy consultant and executive with a career spanning both private and public sectors, Ms. Field first joined the company in April 2019.

Ms. Field holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BA with honors from Stanford University, and has previously worked with renowned institutions such as The White House and The Brookings Institute.

In 2014 she made her foray into the cannabis industry, leading the build-out and sale of one of the first vertically integrated state licenses in Florida. She then went on to operate a strategy consulting practice with a core focus on the cannabis sector.

“I am honored to be promoted to President of Halo during such an exciting time in the company’s development,” said Ms. Field.

“With our growth both in the US as well as internationally, Halo is poised to become a cannabis conglomerate with a global footprint. There is no better time to be leading the company in a more prominent role as the expansion continues.”

Further to Ms. Field’s promotion, Halo Labs also announced the appointment of Louisa Mojela as Chair of the Board, replacing Fred Leigh who will remain with the company as an independent director.

Ms. Mojela was the founder of Women Investment Portfolio Holding Limited, which is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and now worth over C$330 million.

She has also held directorships and facilitated capital raises with Sasol Mining (NYSE:SSL), Adcorp (SJ:ADR), Sun International (SJ:SUI), South African Airways and more.

“I am pleased that Ms. Field will serve as our first President. Also, the planned appointment of Ms. Mojela to Chair will be a historic step as the first African woman to serve as Chair of a publicly traded cannabis company,” said Halo Labs’ CEO and co-founder, Kiran Sidhu.

“With the anticipated closing of Bophelo on the horizon, we look forward to having Ms. Mojela join our team and grow with Ms. Field serving as Halo’s President.”

The Bophelo project in Lesotho, Africa, has begun harvesting 350 cannabis plants with 1,000 more currently flowering.

Halo Labs’ co-founder and Chief Operating Officer, Andreas Met, is currently managing the facility’s operations and is working towards achieving European Union Good Agriculture and Collection Practices certification.

The company’s acquisition of the Bophelo facility is expected to be finalised shortly.

Shares in Halo Labs are currently up 5.13 per cent to 20.5 cents, with a market cap of C$58.73 million.
