Electric vehicle manufacturer Nikola Motor has chosen Global Water Resources (GWR) to handle water services at its new zero-emission manufacturing plant.

a Phoenix-based company, Global Water Resources will become the exclusive provider of water, wastewater and recycled water services at the new facility in Coolidge, Arizona.

Once finished, the 2,700-acre Nikola plant will produce hydrogen-powered and battery-powered Class 8 semi-trucks.

“We are excited to take this next important step with Global Water Resources, who has a reputation as a strong water resource manager and provider for the region,” said Nikola CEO Mark Russell.

“Our goal for this manufacturing site is to design it with the smallest environmental footprint possible, while making the highest quality products for our customers. Our engagement of Global Water reflects a shared commitment to a sustainable future for Arizona and beyond,” he added.

The first phase of construction is set to be completed midway through this year with another 12-18 months of expansion scheduled beyond that.

Global Water Resources owns and operates 16 utilities which provide various water-related services, predominantly around metropolitan Phoenix.

The company recycles nearly one billion gallons of water annually.

Shares of Global Water Resources remain in the grey and are trading at C$18.43 per share.
