General Dynamics Land Systems has selected KWESST’s (KWE) Phantom decoy for U.S. military vehicle trials.

The program aims to develop a next-generation multi-domain mobile capability at the tactical level.

Over the next 18 months, KWESST engineers will collaborate with GDLS to ready a prototype vehicle with Phantom onboard for trials in early 2023. The Phantom decoy’s capability will meet evolving electromagnetic spectrum operations (EMSO) tactics, techniques and procedures for vehicle operators in radio-frequency-contested environments.

Should GDLS win the bid for the planned follow-on production program, the potential value to KWESST could be US$40 million or more.

The companies have a memorandum of understanding in place.

Jeff MacLeod, KWESST’s CEO, stated,

“Today’s announcement represents an important validating milestone and significant potential order flow for KWESST, with multi-year visibility.

A capability like Phantom is a force multiplier. It is a programmable radio frequency device that can mimic the electronic communications of NATO forces, thus fooling adversaries as to their location.

As well, it can detect and display the radio frequency signatures of both adversaries and friendly forces, thereby enabling reconnaissance patrols to plan and train for EMSO operations for maximum effect.”

General Dynamics Land Systems is a global leader in designing, engineering, producing, supporting and sustaining tracked and wheeled military equipment.

KWESST Micro Systems develops and commercializes tactical systems for security forces and personal defence.

KWESST (KWE) closed up by 9.66 per cent trading at $1.93 per share.
