Fremont Gold (FRE) has appointed Utah-based Boart Longyear to carry out a drill program at its North Carlin Gold Project in Nevada.

The ASX-listed contractor is considered the world’s leading provider of drilling services, drilling equipment and performance tooling, and will be tasked with completing at least three drill holes totalling 1,500 metres.

Fremont currently has permits in place for up to 14 holes, and the drilling work is expected to begin in the first week of January next year.

Wholly owned by Fremont, the North Carlin Project covers more than 42 square kilometres and consists of three claim groups – Alkali, Coyote and Rossi – within the northern end of the prolific Carlin Trend.

In preparation for the drilling work, the company has identified a number of high-priority targets based on previous soil geochemistry, gravity and geomagnetic surveys, and the projection of key faults that control gold mineralisation within the Carlin Trend.

The Alkali targets are located at the intersection of the Carlin Trend fault and the Alkali north-east fault, which hosts Hecla Mining’s Hollister mine to the south-west.

The Coyote and Rossi targets, on the other hand, are found at the intersection of the Carlin Trend and Coyote north-east faults.

“With drill permits in hand and a drill contractor selected, we are excited to launch the first ever drill program at North Carlin,” said Blaine Monaghan, CEO of Fremont Gold.

“Located at the northern end of the Nevada’s prolific Carlin Trend, the project is situated in the right geological setting for the discovery of a major gold deposit,” he added.

Fremont Gold is currently steady at 6.5 cents per share, as of 1:33pm EST.
