NFI Group (NFI) will soon launch its CAVForth autonomous bus service in East Scotland.

Via its subsidiary, Alexander Dennis Ltd., CAVForth is a joint project of Fusion Processing Ltd., Stagecoach (the UK’s largest bus and coach operator), Transport Scotland, Edinburgh Napier University, and Bristol Robotics Lab which is part funded by the UK Government’s Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles. It is one of the most complex projects of its kind worldwide and will be the first registered service in the UK to use full-sized autonomous buses.

Service will begin on May 15, 2023, using five Alexander Dennis Enviro200AV buses that will cover a 22.5 km route, in mixed traffic, at up to 80 kph. The service will operate a frequent timetable with the capacity for around 10,000 journeys per week.

Scotland’s Minister for Transport, Kevin Stewart, called this an exciting milestone for this innovative and ambitious project.

“Our trunk road network can provide a wide range of environments as a diverse testing ground, and the ground-breaking and globally significant Project CAVForth will really help Scotland establish its credentials on the world stage.”

NFI is an independent bus and coach manufacturer. It supports growing North American cities with scalable, clean, and sustainable mobility solutions.

The company also operates the Vehicle Innovation Center (VIC). It is the first and only innovation lab dedicated to advancing bus and coach technology and providing workforce development.

NFI Group Inc. (NFI) opened trading at C$8.04 per share.
