Burcon’s (BU) joint venture company, Merit Functional Foods, has launched a novel pea protein.

The ingredient, known as Peazazz C, offers exceptional taste and solubility, low sodium and a smooth, grit-free texture even at double-digit protein inclusion levels.

Peazazz C’s proprietary production process uses Canadian-grown yellow field peas with full traceability back to the farm ensuring a trusted source of plant-based protein.

“The launch of this differentiated pea protein ingredient couldn’t have come at a better time when food formulators are actively seeking better ingredients to improve their formulations,” said Peter H. Kappel, Burcon’s Chairman and Interim CEO. “We expect that producing and selling Peazazz C can support Merit in increasing its market penetration in the protein ingredients space.”

Burcon NutraScience is a global technology leader in the development of plant-based proteins for food and beverage.

Burcon (BU) is up by 8.47 per cent trading at $0.64 per share as of 2:06 pm EST.
