Benz Mining (BZ) has begun a 50,000-metre diamond drilling program at its Eastmain Project in Quebec’s Upper Eastmain Greenstone Belt.

A drill rig arrived at the project on January 13, with the first hole currently targeting conductors that were recently identified in the footwall of the Eastmain mineralisation during the company’s 2020 electromagnetic campaign.

A crew of geophysicists has also been mobilised to carry out a number of FLEM surveys at the Target East area, where three distinct groups of VTEM anomalies point to the potential presence of three conductive trends. These are thought to include the mine trend, the 2020 hanging-wall trend and a new conductive zone roughly one kilometre in the hanging wall of the mine trend.

“The strict COVID-19 management plan we implemented last year allowed us to resume work and we have to acknowledge the dedication of our exploration team,” said Xavier Braud, CEO of Benz Mining.

“The first holes of 2021 are targeting conductors identified during last year’s EM campaign whilst the geophysics crew on site will expand the footprint of the EM surveys to the southeast of the project,” he added.

Xavier also noted that the Eastmain Project has enough undrilled conductors to provide targets for the first three months of drilling, and that Benz will be running an extensive electromagnetic survey to generate additional targets in a system that already has the hallmarks of substantial mineralisation.

According to a report from 2012, the project hosts approximately 376,000 ounces of gold at an average grade of 7.9 grams per tonne, with gold occurrences that have been identified by previous explorers over a 10-kilometre-long zone along strike from the Eastmain Mine.

Benz Mining is currently up 1.72 per cent to C$1.18 per share at 1:13pm EST.
