American Lithium (LI) has completed a process of precipitation of high purity, fertilizer quality potassium sulfate by-product from its Falchani Project.

According to the company, the testing confirmed that it can produce enough of the product to potentially supply all of Peru with its domestic fertilizer needs. The product produced from mineralization is 45 per cent potassium and 20 per cent sulfur.

“Falchani has the potential to ultimately make Peru self-sufficient for the SOP fertilizers required to produce the high-value crops, fruit and vegetables that are major exports for Per,” Dr. Laurence Stefan, COO of American Lithium, said.

The company continues to refine its flowsheet to maximize its ability to extract other critical minerals, and potential by-products to further enhance the Falchani project.

The current test work program being used for the by-product is building on previous programs which have demonstrated the ability to produce battery grade lithium carbonate from the Falchani mineralization. This latest program is modifying the baseline flowsheet to allow the recovery of potassium sulfate, cesium, and rubidium by-products.

The company stated that Peru imports all potassium sulfate needed for its agricultural sector which is mainly used for high-value crops that are used for Peruvian agricultural exports.

American Lithium claims that the large amounts of fertilizer product it could produce from Falchani could cover the needs of Peru compared to pre-pandemic requirements, with the possibility of Peru becoming a net fertilizer exporter at full capacity.

American Lithium Corp. (LI) is up 5.58 per cent and is trading at $2.08 per share as of 2:56 p.m. ET.
