Alkaline Fuel Cell Power’s (PWWR) Belgian subsidiary, Fuel Cell Power NV, has launched a prototype of its combined heat and power fuel cell.

The fuel cell, known as Jupiter 1.0., converts hydrogen to heat and electricity with approximately 90 per cent efficiency. Jupiter 1.0 is designed to supply power during peak demand periods and serves as a backup when required for homes and small buildings.

Frank Carnevale, CEO of Alkaline Fuel Cell Power, commented,

“The Jupiter 1.0 prototype will be piloted with select strategic partners to demonstrate the advantages of delivering green hydrogen to homes and small buildings globally.”

Jupiter 1.0 has previously demonstrated its capabilities by powering several appliances and providing hot water within the company’s Belgian facility.

At capacity, Jupiter 1.0 is expected to deliver approximately 7.0 kilowatts for the first hour of use, with a 4.0-kilowatt electrical output afterward representing approximately 3.2 kilowatt equivalent in heating output.

Jupiter 1.0 requires fewer components compared to conventional fuel cells and eliminates the need for expensive precious metals such as platinum. Over the next few months, additional enhancements will be made to the Jupiter 1.0 system before a CE certification submission and pilot projects.

In other news, Jo Verstappen, Managing Director of Fuel Cell Power NV, has resigned from his role. Frank Carnevale has assumed management of the subsidiary.

Alkaline Fuel Cell Power Corp. (PWWR) is up 14.30 per cent, trading at $0.08 as of 2:17 p.m. EST.
